The ‘Eddie Smith’ Identity in the Dahmer Case Doesn’t Hold Up

According to the official story, Eddie Smith was murdered by Jeffrey Dahmer in 1990. The records on this page suggest that the identity presented as “Eddie Smith” may actually belong to Ernest Richard Smith, a man who appears in public records after the alleged murder.

This is the man the official narrative identifies as ‘Eddie Smith’— a supposed victim of Jeffrey Dahmer, allegedly murdered in July 1990. But there’s just one problem: this man was not named Eddie Smith.

When you follow the records, a different identity emerges—one that doesn’t match the story you’ve been told.

His real name appears to have been Ernest Richard Smith…

And he was still alive after 1990 — alive long enough to eventually turn up dead in 1999.

The Same Face Appears Under a Different Name

Below is a photo of Ernest Richard Smith, taken in 1975, when he was 16 and attending John Marshall High School in Milwaukee. You can look up this information yourself on Ancestry.com.

THERESA SMITH CLAIMS JEFF DAHMER KILLED “EDDIE”

Theresa Smith was Ernest Richard Smith’s older sister. Theresa also attended John Marshall High School in Milwaukee.

In this news segment, Theresa Smith claims that Jeffrey Dahmer killed her brother “Eddie”.

Ernest Richard Smith died in 1999

There’s plenty of information in Ancestry.com about Ernest Richard Smith and the entire Smith family. Most of the men, including Ernest, served in the US military and are buried in national cemeteries. Note the death date: March 21, 1999.

Carolyn Smith

People familiar with this case know about “Carolyn Smith”, someone who was seated in the courtroom during Jeff Dahmer’s trial and who appeared on various talk shows claiming to be Eddie Smith’s sister:

This is “Carolyn Smith,” describing her alleged brother, Eddie Smith. As for whether this is a woman or a man in a wig — I’ll let you be the judge.

The Getty Images photograph below identifies the woman in the image as Caroline Smith. I’m including the Getty Images listing so readers can review the original source and caption.

According to Getty Images, the photograph was taken during a meeting between family members connected to the Dahmer civil lawsuit and attorney Thomas Jacobson, a well-known Milwaukee civil rights attorney who later ran as the Democratic candidate for Wisconsin Attorney General.

The photograph also provides a useful point of comparison. Caroline Smith appears seated with other family members and is noticeably larger than the women seated beside her. Readers can evaluate the image for themselves in the context of the testimony and records discussed on this page.

ernest richard smith Was Still Alive After 1990

Ernest Richard Smith died in 1999 after attempting a surprise sex act on a sleeping man named Roy Barnes. Barnes did not appreciate the gesture.

The name given in the news clipping below is “Carolyn Contessa Smith.”  Neither she — nor any “Carolyn Smith” matching her description — has a paper trail in Ancestry.com or anywhere else outside the official narrative about Jeffrey Dahmer.

A connection to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee?

Ernest Richard Smith’s parents were Walter Smith and Josephine Helen Smith — both traceable, both real. Their children are clearly listed here: Henry, Mattie, Walter Jr., Michael, Ernest, Robert, and Theresa. You’ll notice what’s missing: no “Edward Warren Smith.” No “Carolyn Smith,” either.

Also worth noting: the Smiths appear to be Roman Catholic (Walter Smith was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery and Josephine Smith in All Souls Catholic Cemetery) — a rarity for African-American families in Milwaukee, and a detail that becomes more difficult to ignore given the Archdiocese of Milwaukee’s connection to this story.

Was the Smith family’s Catholicism purely incidental—or did it play a role how the ‘Eddie Smith’ identity was constructed?

A Felony Robbery Charge Dropped 12 Days Before the Trial

There’s no trace of an “Edward Warren Smith” in the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) or anywhere else that would ground him in reality. But Ernest Richard Smith?  Twelve days before Jeff Dahmer’s trial, he had a felony robbery charge quietly dismissed. A Class E in Wisconsin isn’t a slap on the wrist. It carries up to 15 years behind bars and a $50,000 fine.

Was Ernest, staring down serious time for the robbery charge, offered a deal?

jeff dahmer's “CONFESSION” ABOUT “EDDIE SMITH” DOESN’T HOLD UP

Here’s what Jeff Dahmer said in his confession about Eddie Smith:

This isn’t the only identity in the Dahmer case that doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.
